A bottle-shaped cooling tower, also known as a round orinduced draft counterflow (IDCT)tower, isan evaporative cooling solution with a distinctive cylindrical shape that narrows towards the top. It is designed to efficiently cool water for industrial and HVAC systems by circulating hot water from the bottom, distributing it over PVC fill media, and using a fan to pull air upward through the tower. This design optimizes airflow for enhanced heat dissipation through evaporation before releasing the cooled, moist air.

Key features and operation

Shape: The rounded, bottle-like shape is aerodynamically efficient, allowing for even air distribution and increased air velocity through the narrow waist.
Construction: These towers are typically made from corrosion-resistant Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) for durability.
Water distribution: Hot water is pumped to a mechanical rotary sprinkler at the top, which rotates and evenly disperses the water over the fill media below.
Airflow: A fan pulls air in at the bottom and forces it upward, creating a counterflow with the water as it descends.
Cooling process: As the air flows through the fill, a small portion of the water evaporates. This process removes heat from the remaining water, which is collected in the sump at the bottom.
